This unit provides a general introduction to the practice of youth ministry. It offers a broad overview of the basic foundations of youth ministry and invites students to reflect strategically and theologically about ministry with the present generation of youth. Although aimed primarily at preparing the student for youth ministry in the local church, this course will also provide a basis for exploring other forms of youth ministry.

Learning outcomes

Articulate a theological understanding of the nature and strategic place of youth ministry within the church.

Evaluate the effectiveness of different models of youth ministry in establishing vision, identifying needs and engaging cultural groups of young people.

Identify Christian leadership principles for a local church youth ministry context.

Evaluate strategies and resources to effectively engage with youth.

5.

Reflect critically on the self-identity of people in ministry with youth and articulate aspects of ‘call’ to youth ministry.
