This unit is designed to broaden and further develop the students’ theology and practice of public ministry in a local church setting. A variety of creative approaches to biblical communication and worship leadership will be considered. Special focus will be given to issues relating to emerging trends in post-modern settings as well as ministry for particular focus groups and specific occasions in the life of the church.

Learning outcomes

1.

Critically evaluate the impact of recent societal and ecclesiological trends upon worship and preaching.

2.

Formulate worship services to engage creatively with specific people groups and critique the effectiveness of two approaches.

3.

Demonstrate ability to employ biblical communication in a narrative form, and one other creative alternative form, in a congregational setting.

4.

Analyse the impact of biblical communication methods in light of societal change.

5.

Appraise the use of liturgical, church and civic calendars for effective church ministry planning.

6.

Critically appraise the design and effectiveness of alternate methods of communication for different contexts (specific groups and occasions).
