Demonstrate public speaking skills
Contextualise sermons both in terms of the needs of the hearers and in terms of the theology of the means of grace
Write and preach sermons based on lectionary texts
Write and preach occasional sermons (e.g. Weddings, funerals, school)
Listen critically to preached sermons and provide constructive feedback
Assess and utilise constructive feedback
Show advanced skills in moving from sermon preparation to public preaching, demonstrating both theological depth and clear application to the hearer
Demonstrate advanced ability to receive feedback and apply learning to the practice of preaching.
Preparing the Sermon
Teaching input from the lecturer, seminar style dialogue and discussion, reviewing and discussing pre-reading materials, class exercises practicing skills and methods, impromptu speaking, class presentations of sermon study materials, with students coaching one another and providing feedback.
