This is a practical unit in a supervised ministry context. The unit focuses especially on developing the basic skills needed for leading public worship using the resources of the Lutheran Church of Australia. The student is given the opportunity to become familiar with what is involved in preparing and co-ordinating public worship, leading orders of worship in the context of congregational life in the Lutheran Church of Australia and the contextual issues involved in the enactment of the rites of baptism, confirmation, marriage and funeral in the ministry context.

Learning Outcomes

1.

Demonstrate competence in the use the worship resources of the Lutheran Church of Australia in preparation and leadership of worship

Demonstrate the basic skills required to lead public worship

Explain the pastoral responsibilities associated with the enactment of the church’s rites (baptism, confirmation, marriages and funeral)

Engage positively with supervision in the preparation of worship and debriefing of leadership experiences and demonstrate an ability to reflect and incorporate the supervisor’s feedback

This is applied workplace learning informed by relevant literature, supervisory observation and mentoring, and student reflective integrative responses.

Task 1 A plan for leading worship. The end of week 2 Task 2 A skill demonstration which gives evidence of the use of LCA worship resources in preparation for leading worship. Determined by the supervisor. Task 3 Lead worship demonstrating the ability to work their plan. Determined by the supervisor. Task 4 Workplace evaluation in the form of regular debriefs with the supervisor with a focus on developing competency to lead public worship. Determined by the supervisor. Task 5 Workshop with the supervisor on the leadership of public worship and a reflection paper including specific points of learning and questions about their ability to lead these rites. Second last week of the practicum.
