This unit introduces students to the bible by focusing on key sections of the Old and New Testaments and how these are interpreted within the Catholic tradition. It provides an overview of the relationship between scripture and revelation. It also investigates the principles and methods of biblical interpretation, providing a foundation for understanding the bible in the context of religious education and the life of the Church.

Learning outcomes

Analyse different types of literature in the Bible within their social, political, and religious contexts, and reflect on how this knowledge might inform practice in teaching religious education.

Interpret passages from the Old and New Testament regarding some central theological concepts in selected texts.

Examine some methods used to interpret the Bible within the Catholic tradition.

Critically reflect on personal and professional learning from this unit.

No prerequisites. This is the first unit in the CTC & YTU program of units for the Graduate Certificate in Teaching Religious Education.

Pedagogy
