“No-one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father’s heart who has made him known” (John1:18). Christian theology affirms that the ultimate source of our knowledge of God is what God reveals of Godself through Jesus the Christ. This unit introduces the study of theology, its sources and methods, through the study of Christology. It focusses on Jesus Christ, his life and ministry, his saving death and resurrection and the subsequent reflection of the Church on his person and work.

Learning outcomes

1.	Identify how Jesus is the fulfilment of OT Scripture and discuss who Jesus was in his historical context from a Christian faith perspective,
2.	Explain what the big and evolving questions facing the early church were after Jesus’ death and resurrection, and show how these questions were answered in different periods of church history
3.	Use appropriate Scriptural, historical and contemporary theological resources to discuss the person and work of Jesus Christ
4.	Articulate the doctrine of salvation in Jesus Christ and reflect theologically on how the person and work of Jesus can be expressed in our contemporary world

Pedagogy

UCLT uses primary and secondary sources considered through different lenses to identify and explore the challenges of the unit material for the contemporary world. Students are engaged in a range of comparative, analytical and reflective practices to identify the original meanings of the text in their contexts and to interpret them hermeneutically.
