This unit will provide an overview of the sacrament of Eucharist, from historical, liturgical and theological perspectives. A major part of this unit will examine the Coptic understanding of the Eucharist and the key elements of Coptic sacramental theology. Topics to be considered include: The Eucharist in relation to Christology, Salvation and the Church; the Eucharist in the Scriptures; and the development of the theology of the Eucharist in terms of transformation, anamnesis, sacrifice and the presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
Articulate an understanding of the origin, history, value and theological meaning of the Eucharist in the early church.
Describe the relationship between the teachings of the early Fathers of the Church and the Coptic tradition on the Eucharist
Explain the theology of the Eucharist as articulated by the Coptic Church.
Discuss the liturgical structure of the Eucharistic Liturgies of the Coptic Church
