Content

This unit explores the identity and development of Christian ecclesiology, with special attention given to the Church of England and the churches of the Anglican Communion. Students will engage with both historical and contemporary matters in ecclesiology. The unit will concentrate on relevant topics in the theology of the Church, ecclesial governance, conceptions of ordained and lay ministries, and canon law. Students will develop skills in analysing primary and secondary documentation, and articulating the identity of the church across different theological paradigms. While this unit will encompass global issues facing Anglicanism, particular focus will be placed on the history, governance and issues facing the Anglican Church of Australia.
