This unit is an overview of the challenges and tasks of theology in the contemporary world. It engages with a range of voices, theological and otherwise, and introduces students to the practice of theology as an inter-disciplinary field of study. Students will be asked to contend with the possibilities of doing theology in a world marked by losses of meaning, conflicted diversity, and global crises.

This unit is a prerequisite for 9000-level electives in Systematic Theology.

Pedagogy

Direct instruction, provocation, and self-directed learning approach to learning discipline specific skills (demonstrating an understanding of concepts in theology, reading, and reflecting on a range of theologians, and engaging in the process of re-constructing theology for the contemporary context, and classroom dialogues) through lectures, tutorials with targeted learning activities, and formative and summative assessment tasks.
