This unit will explore the various liturgies of the Oriental Orthodox tradition: Coptic, Syrian (East and West), Armenian, and Ethiopian. A survey of four distinct liturgical rites that still exist today will complete a foundational understanding to the diverse observances of these cultural traditions. It will enable students to engage and compare ancient and modern liturgical texts, specifically the anaphora’s, as well as analyse theological representations expressed in each tradition.
