Significant Chinese migration to Australia predates federation itself, dating back to the gold rushes of the mid-1850s. According to the 2021 census data, there are almost 1.4 million Australians that claim Chinese ancestry, and over 20% of this diaspora practice Christianity. The one key question this paper will address is: from the perspective of literature on migrant theology, how do the history, dual-culture, and migration experience of the Chinese-Christian diaspora in Australia shape their understanding and practice of the Christian faith? This paper will answer this question by reviewing existing literature on migrant theology, Chinese culture, and Chinese-Australia history; and then providing reflections on Chinese-Australian spirituality and practice based on the aforementioned review.
