This unit investigates issues of leadership, culture, and ecclesial community from an anthropological perspective, paying particular attention to leadership in contemporary global contexts. It covers theoretical and practical dimensions that include the nature of culture, the nature of the culture and leadership, and critical reflection on personal leadership preferences.

Learning outcomes

1.

Describe Social Game Theory (SGT) and apply it to leadership and church.

2.

Articulate the cultural dimensions of a community of faith.

3.

Evaluate Cultural Intelligence (CQ) and how culture impacts leadership modes and preferences.

4.

Compare and contrast biblical metaphors and dominant cultural leadership expressions.

5.

Lead others in awareness of self as leader, while deepening one’s own self awareness, especially as this identity relates to SGT, CQ and cultural bias.

Unit sequence

Prerequisites: Either previous study in missiology, pastoral or spiritual care, theology or bible; or substantial experience in and reflection on corporate Christian life. This unit is only available to students enrolled in the Abilene Christian University/Stirling Theological College Doctor of Ministry Program.

Pedagogy

Participants will engage in reading, an immersive learning and practical experience, will make presentations and share reflections. The unit may be offered by intensive or online or a combination.
