This unit explores what it means for leaders of migrant, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) faith communities in Australia, to minister to young people. Students will explore a range of frameworks for contextualisation, drawing from a breadth of local and global Asian and Pasifika scholarship. Students will be equiped to develop contextual theological responses to local challenges.

Learning outcomes

1.

Discuss intercultural issues in leadership, mission and ministry as they relate to discipling young people in CALD migrant contexts

2.

Analyse the strengths of, and challenges faced by, young people in CALD migrant communities

Apply models of contextual analysis to a local faith community

4.

Develop contextual theological responses to local challenges faced by CALD migrant communities

5.

Analyse critical knowledge concerning issues of migration, cultural and generational difference, as well as Asian and Pasifika theological perspectives.

Pedagogy

This unit will run in three intensive days of class, offered both face-to-face and online, and with a range of guest speakers, group discussion and student presentations. This is followed by a further day-and-a-half of participation in a symposium.
