This unit builds on the core theory and skills of the Graduate Diploma of Counselling and accompanies the student's professional practice. The unit comprises in-depth knowledge drawn from a range of counselling theories, processes and strategies such as psychodynamic, existential- humanist, strength based and other approaches in order to develop conceptual abilities and professional practice skills, Major theoretical assumptions are held in tension and critically examined with a focus on integration.. Students are given an understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of these therapies as well as learning to apply their practical clinical skills to clients and their concerns.

The unit is delivered concurrently with DZ9076S Supervised Counselling Practice Integration in a series of seminars requiring face-to-face synchronous learning in physical space or non-physical space. Seminars on the cognitive behavioural therapies include lecture material, video demonstrations, small group discussions, and tutorials.
